Project: Tailings Storage Facilities of Zarshuran Gold Mine
Client: Pars Kani Mineral
Background: Pars Kani Mineral was appointed as the EPC contractor for construction of the Zarshuran Gold Plant in north-west Iran. MEWE was engaged by Pars Kani to design the tailings storage facility (TSF). Tailings dewatering had already been specified as a pressure filtration system.
Actions: MEWE’s scope covered the full engineering design cycle—from conceptual to detailed design—along with key baseline studies such as surface and groundwater hydrology. Geotechnical investigations of the dry stacking site and tailings material were carried out under MEWE’s supervision.
Result: Tailings storage capacity was increased in three stages, expanding from 40 MCM to 140 MCM. A fifth 12-meter diameter deep-cone paste thickener was installed alongside the four existing units. The potable water and fire water systems were modernized, and a new wastewater treatment plant was designed and constructed.
