Project: Seawater Desalination Plant, Hyosung Pilot Plant, 100 m3/day
Client: Hyosung Ebara South Korea
Background: Following the introduction of its new seawater desalination package, Hyosung reached an agreement with Hyosung Goodsprings, Middle East Water & Environment (MEWE), and Qeshm Utility Company to install a compact, containerized seawater desalination unit on Qeshm Island. The project was implemented as a pilot installation for operational testing and as part of Hyosung’s Research & Development program.
Actions: The 100 m³/day containerized SWRO plant was installed in the town of Baseedo, located in the north-western corner of Qeshm Island, on a site provided by Qeshm Utility Company. Feedwater was sourced from a nearby beach well. Pretreatment within the containerized unit included disc, ultrafiltration, and cartridge filters, followed by a double-pass reverse osmosis membrane system.
Results: The plant was operated for a full one-year trial period under MEWE’s supervision, during which all key operational parameters were monitored and reported to Hyosung for R&D analysis. Upon completion of the trial, the unit was officially handed over to Qeshm Utility Company for continued operation and maintenance under its own management.
