Project: Seawater Desalination Plant, Hormozgan Cement Plant, 4000 m3/day
Client: Hormozgan Cement Company
Background: Hormozgan Cement Factory, located along the Persian Gulf coastline, sought to secure an additional water source to supplement its existing supply. The company awarded the design of a 4,000 m³/day SWRO desalination plant to Marine System Technologists Ltd., while the review of the Basic and Detailed Design Documents was assigned to MEWE.
Actions: Working in close collaboration with the designer, MEWE reviewed and provided feedback on all key disciplines, including process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, civil, structural, architectural, geological, and environmental aspects. These comments were discussed and finalized in technical meetings with both the client and the consultant.
Results: The intake structure was identified as the most critical component of the project. Due to the high cost of laying intake pipes from a depth of –10 m to the intake basin, and considering the geological conditions of the shoreline, MEWE emphasized the need for further supplementary investigations into the feasibility of using beach wells as an alternative seawater intake method.
