Project: Sand and Water Ditching Training Facilities
Client: Mahan Airlines
Background: To enhance flight attendant training for emergency situations—such as evacuation from a sinking aircraft or survival after a desert landing—Mahan Airlines planned the construction of combined water pool and sand pool facilities at its Kerman Airport base. MEWE was appointed to carry out the design and provide construction supervision for the project.
Actions: International codes, manuals, and guidelines for civil aviation training facilities were thoroughly reviewed. In addition, input from the client’s Training Department instructors was gathered and incorporated throughout the conceptual, basic, and detailed design stages. Construction supervision was conducted in close coordination with the Training Department staff through regular interactions and correspondence.
Results: The L-shaped pool measures 45 × 20 meters with an average depth of 2.5 meters, with a sand pool positioned directly adjacent. Supporting infrastructure includes a below-ground water treatment plant, showers and bathrooms for post-training use, dedicated equipment storage, and reinforced pavement capable of supporting the wheels of an Airbus A300-B4.
