Project: Water and Tailings Management of Miyaneh Molybdenium Mine
Client: Arya Kansar Samin Company
Background: Arya Kansar Samin, a private investor in the mineral industry, engaged MEWE to design both the process plant and the associated water and tailings management system for a 2 MTPA molybdenum concentrator. The design work formed part of the plant’s feasibility study.
Actions: The scope included investigations into raw water sourcing, tailings dewatering, transfer, and storage, with the design developed to the basic design stage. Located in the well-developed province of East Azerbaijan, the project faced significant challenges due to conflicts with existing infrastructure. These were addressed by evaluating and optimizing a wide range of design options.
Results: A complete set of basic design documents was delivered, covering technical specifications and budgetary requirements for plant construction and associated investment. However, the subsequent feasibility study determined that, based on the mine’s ore reserves and prevailing molybdenum concentrate prices, the investment was not viable at the time.
