Project: MetOcean and Environmental Baseline Survey of Beheshti Port
Client: Ports and Maritime Organization
Background: PMO planned major investments in expanding Beheshti Port at Chabahar Bay (Sea of Oman). MEWE was commissioned to conduct marine field measurements and an environmental baseline survey, with special focus on coral habitats.
Actions: Two ADCP units equipped with directional wave gauges, tide recorders, and temperature loggers were deployed in the region. A non-directional wave recorder was installed inside the harbor. Float tracking operations and suspended sediment measurements (25-hour campaigns) were conducted at the harbor entrance.
Results: Out of 20 seabed stations surveyed, only one had scattered, small, and unhealthy coral patches. The study concluded that sedimentation is ongoing and the coral community will continue to diminish even without additional human impact.
