Project: Kerman Airport New Passenger Terminal
Client: Iran Airports and Air Navigation Company
Background: IAC initiated plans for the further development of the new passenger terminal at Kerman Airport, aiming to increase both service capacity and operational efficiency. MEWE’s role was to collaborate with and assist Società per Azioni Esercizi Aeroportuali (Italy) in delivering the concept design.
Actions: The concept design was structured around three main expansion phases:
Phase 1 (2021): Achieve the dimensional and functional requirements to handle approximately 2.1 million passengers per annum (MPPA).
Phase 2 (2031 and beyond): Enable a potential expansion of the passenger terminal building.
Phase 3: Further expand the terminal to accommodate up to 10 MPPA.
Results: The architectural vision centered on two key principles: creating a modern architectural identity for a new Iranian infrastructure while integrating historical references and iconic elements from Iranian tradition; and providing a safe, welcoming passenger environment through the use of innovative materials and technologies.
