Project: EIA of DBM production in Salt Lake
Client: Mining Industries Development Holding Company
Background: The objective of one study was to assess the environmental impact of proposed magnesium oxide and sodium chloride extraction facilities at Namak Lake, near Aran & Bidgol County, Iran. This assessment formed part of a feasibility study conducted under the supervision of Advisian, part of the WorleyParsons Group.
Actions: A 110 × 140 km area was selected for the study. Work included desk studies, site visits, local surveys, and supplementary analysis using specialized software. Setback requirements were observed for buildings, infrastructure, residential areas, farms, factories, resorts, water reservoirs, power lines, roads, railways, protected areas, and the Kavir National Park.
Results: The project was found to be technically feasible, with negligible risk from natural disasters and relatively low environmental impact. The establishment of new industrial facilities was widely supported in the region. Land acquisition was possible, and low-wage labor was available for construction and operations.
