Project: Wide Body Aircrafts Maintenance Hangar
Client: Mahan Airlines
Background: Mahan Airlines sought to expand its aircraft maintenance capabilities by developing a new facility at Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran. MEWE was engaged, in association with KenTech, to undertake the design development and facilitate know-how transfer.
Actions: Kencana Technologies, a specialist in aircraft hangar design and construction, managed the overall design process. Under KenTech’s supervision, MEWE carried out most of the basic and detailed design work across multiple project disciplines. The hangar was designed to accommodate simultaneous A to D checks for up to five wide-body aircraft. The steel structure design for the hangar was patented by Strarch Technologies.
Results: The facility features a 130 m-wide, 34 m-high stressed-arch steel roof—the first and largest of its kind in Iran—spanning the aircraft maintenance area. The total covered area is 40,000 m². Adjacent to the hangar, a four-level pre-stressed concrete annex houses workshops, administrative offices, storage facilities, staff amenities, and plant rooms.
