Project Seawater Desalination Plant, SAKO, 200000 m3/day
Client Asia Water Development Company
Background Regarding water scarcity in Iranian Central Plateau, three big Iranian mining industries formed joint stock companies to desalinate water at coastlines of Persian Gulf and to further transfer, in long distances to these industrial complexes in Kerman and Yazd provinces. The plant will also supply part of Bandar Abbas drinking water requirement.
Actions The final plant is considered biggest in Iran and one of the big ones in the world. In collaboration with Singaporian Technology Provider, Hyflux, and well known Iranian Contractor, Caisson, engineering services and construction works were conducted for the project. Basic Design was done by technology provider and detailed design and construction supervision were conducted by MEWE.
Results Project involved design and construction of pretreatment, RO plant and post treatment for only one fifth of the final capacity of 1 MCM/day of the project. Design of the seawater intake and brine discharge system was completed for the full capacity of the final plant. Desalination Units will be constructed through separate phases.
